![]() ![]() click for more images boredomresearch creates software based artworks which are presented as objects or online as interactive installations. Their pieces of art are of a high aesthetic standard, visually as well as acoustically in their sound compositions of single objects, and deal with research concerning artificial intelligence. Natural ecosystems, in which evolution takes place, by using computer viruses, are recreated while the spectator gets the impression to observe the process through a microscope. Also characteristic for boredomresearch' works are their references to Asian painting emphasized through an ornamental style and a sensitive handling of colours. The works are mainly built by using their own software; the objects are conceived as wall objects or for the ground and remind of portholes inviting to take a look into another world. Quotation boredomresearch: „We are interested in building observable phenomena of intrigue and beauty, using techniques similar to those used by scientists to understand the natural world. In our systems the sensation or illusion of life is our key interest rather than a desire to create life itself. Like technology, nature refuses to rest.“ Collaborating as boredomresearch, Vicky Isley and Paul Smith are both Research Fellows in Computer Animation & Computer Art at the National Center for Computer Animation, Bournemouth University, UK (2005-2008). boredomresearch have gained an international reputation for interrogating the creative role of computing. The British Council has acquired artworks from the young artist couple for its collection. |
