The painter and sculptor Holger Lippmann was born in Mittweida in 1960. After his studies in sculpture at the Art Academy Dresden and his two-year-long master class training, he held scholarships at the AK Stuttgart and the IHEAP Institute in Paris. Since the beginning of the 1990s he has developed a strong interest in the use of digital technology for image editing and three-dimensional visualisation. Soon after his work experience at the Institute for Technology New York in 1992-1993 and his further training at the Cimdata Institute, he realised his first 3D animation and interactive director application and won the CybernetArt CD ROM Prize in Dresden 1997. At the end of the 1990s several internet projects were realised, such as POPULAR (www.popular.de), an online VJ Project that reached half a million visits after only one month. Amongst other works, Lippmann’s dynamically coded “minimal garden” became part of TodaysArt Festival in Den Haag, Clubtransmediale05 and UNSOUND Festival in Krakow.
